Aftercare Instructions

BLOT, CLEANSE, MOISTURIZE

Permanent makeup, like all tattooing, creates a wound that will weep lymphatic fluid. It is important to blot/remove this fluid to prevent heavy scabbing. Heavy scabbing can pull out the pigment, which will result in light spots and/or unevenness of color.

For the next 10 days, wash daily to remove bacteria, build-up of product and oils, and dead skin.

With clean hands, gently wash the area morning and night with water and gentle soap (unscented and alcohol free). Examples: Dial, Cetaphil. Do not use any cleansers containing acids (glycolic, lactic, AHA), or any exfoliants. Do not use a washcloth or sponge. Pat dry, and wait 15 minutes before applying ointment. Never put ointment on wet or damp tattoos. Never cover the area with a bandage. They need to breathe for optimum healing.

Lips only: For the first 4 days, wipe lips with a damp cotton round 4x a day (no soap, just sterile or filtered water). After 4 days, follow the washing procedure listed above. And always rinse with water after eating, followed by the ointment.

Using a Q-tip, apply a thin coat of the provided ointment 3-4 times a day for the next 10 days. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The product should be barely noticeable on the skin. We prefer a “chapstick” amount vs “lipgloss” amount. Remember, a little goes a long way. Never touch the procedure area with your hands without washing them immediately before.

The healing duration of any PMU procedure is considered to be around 4 weeks. Touch ups can be done around 6-8 weeks, to allow for full skin cell turnover.

Failure to follow after care instructions may result in infections, pigment loss or discoloration.

THINGS TO AVOID AND IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Avoid sleeping on your face or side for the first 10 days to avoid friction and contamination. Use a clean pillowcase.
No facials, botox, chemical treatments/peels, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
Avoid putting makeup and sunscreen on the treated area for the first 10 days
Avoid long hot showers, hot tubs, steam rooms, public pools, sweaty exercise, or submerging the tattoo in water for the first 10 days.
Avoid any activities that cause sweating, dust, dirt, or dander for the first 10 days.
Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Do not let the water directly hit the tattooed area.
Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.
For lips: Avoid spicy, oily, or salty foods, and kissing or licking lips for 10 days. Drink through a straw and use gentle dental care. Avoid smoking for 72hrs. No fillers for 4 weeks.
Some tenderness, swelling, redness, itching, and even bruising, is quite normal for the tattoo healing process. Do not rub, pick, peel, or scratch the treated area, as this could result in uneven color, as well as risk of scarring and infection.
Possible side effects include: fanning, fading, scarring and keloids (especially if prone to them), allergic reactions (rash that’s red, bumpy, or itchy) and infection (skin that is warm to the touch, excessive redness or discoloration, pus/blisters, worsening pain, fever).
When to seek help: redness, swelling, tenderness of the procedure area, worsening pain, red streak going from the procedure site towards the heart, elevated body temperature, or purulent drainage from the procedure site.
